"Seamless Acquires Menupages in Race for Restaurants" - NYTimes.com

It's still not clear to me just what long term role the web, etc. is going to play in the world of restaurants. I am not questioning but that it will be a very important role, but am not sure just what it will be.

"La Brea Bakery"

I think the revolution is more about how high can you push bread prices than anything else.

"Elmo's Diner - Carrboro’s Specials"

I saw the sign today for sweet potato pancakes. Looks like it is not the pancake, but what you put on it that is sweet potato.
At Harris-Teeter, I saw actual sweet potato pancake mix,

On these sorts of things, all I care about is disclosure. Caveat emptor after that.

"Hunger in America, Visible if You Look for It" - NYTimes.com

We never really come to grips with this in NC. Some do better than others, but for most of us, it's center on the nice to do list.

"Madhatter Bakeshop and Cafe"

Heard this mentioned as sponsor on WUNC this morning.

"Tyson Agrees to $32 Million Settlement" - NYTimes.com

Once again, I think we all have a stronger interest than we realize in the workers who ultimately produce the food we consume.

This place in Chapel Hill sure seems to be super-crowded whenever we drive by....

Lowes Foods

I wonder how one can convince the people who help bag food at Lowes to use fewer plastic bags if you go in without enough of your own to hold your order as I did yesterday. I wound up with a 5 or so that may get used again at home and then recycled. Seems like a needless waste.

By the way, I love the nutrition number Lowes puts on products now. Next - I want to understand how they were calculated!

I suppose spending $250 on a cooking class is a good way to fire some money into the local economy. Why don't all the rich people in Chapel Hill either sign up for a class or buy multiple enrollments for people less wealthy than they? That should have a positive local impact, no?
