Not quite sure what this is all about, but may be promising beyond promotion.

Video: NC Now Special: Sweet Potatoes | Watch North Carolina Now Online | UNC-TV Video

Great show! Talks about Snow Hill, NC and sweet potato farmers. NC produces 42/43% of US sweet potatoes, according to HAM who was interviewed on his farm. Ham Farms. He noted a lot of NC sweet potatoes now going to Europe. Also showed Yamco which makes sweet potato purees for various customers who use it in products that we then consume. Not sure if a consumer can buy direct. Several sweet potato recipes shown, from cornbread to pancakes. And, finally, the Society of St Andrew which retrieves missed sweet potatoes in the ground. Expectation of huge potential growth in sweet potato growing and sales.

Not sure how all this translates.....into food prices, availability, etc.

Stonyfield

"To "The folks at Stonyfield",
You should put all of this information on your website where you give us customers a chance to enter an address to see who sells your products near us. As I recall, you ask us for specific product information in doing that search and then give us a list of everyone selling at least SOME of your products. You ought either to make the search work better through gathering more information from distributors and, heaven forbid, retailers AND/OR explain the limitations of the search before someone like me wastes a lot of time OR delete the whole functionality from you site. You need to make a choice, and if you don’t see the value in doing so, you don't understand customers. We have a problem, mention to some friends, and then to their friends, and so on. Pretty soon you get a reputation for providing misleadingly frustrating functions on your site.
Good luck.

Hello Terry,

Thanks for reaching out to us with your question about our Minty Chocolate Chip organic frozen yogurt. We're sorry to hear you're having a hard time finding it. We’re going to look into it at our end. Whether or not to carry a product is up to the individual store, and since we primarily sell to distributors who then sell our products to stores, we don't always know exactly what stores are ordering. To help these stores we engaged help from a company that gathers information off of cash register sales and refreshes it every 2 weeks.

I realize that you check our store locator, but it is still the only way we know which store our selling our products. It is refreshed every 2 weeks and is based on cash register sales:

You can also help us get on the shelves by asking your store's dairy manager about carrying your favorite flavors. Sometimes all it takes is a request from a yogurt lover like you!

Thanks again for reaching out.

Sincerely,

The folks at Stonyfield

Stir everything you love about Stonyfield into everything you make. Find delicious ways to cook with yogurt at our updated recipe site, and be the first to rate your favorite recipes: http://www.stonyfield.com/recipes"

Insomnia Cookies | Insomnia Cookies

What's really irritating about this operation, now in Chapel Hill, is that in order to "find" a store, you have to give them a full address. A zip code should more than suffice, but they want to suck you into telling them a lot about yourself. I refuse.

Stand-Alone Food Section Faces Demise in Bay Area - NYTimes.com

A strategic blunder by the Chronicle. The debate is not about sustainability of food sections; it is about how the Chronicle can remake its array of food content and services so as to make them essential for the people of its market. I see none of that in this story, and would be surprised if exists anywhere.

Inter-Faith Food Shuttle

I wonder how much of this is food and how much is "faith"? The challenge grant they are promoting is from an organization that appears fully focused on Christians; that leaves me very uneasy.

How little we know about the food we eat

I am struck every day by how little we really know about almost all of the food most of us eat. Food labels are worth only the plastic on which most of them are printed. I am not just talking health and safety; what do we know about all of the many other variables that affect all we eat from the people who created or grew the food to those who transported it to the way we or someone else prepares that food. It is astonishing that we put so many things into our bodies knowing so little about any of it. When on a Jet Blue flight yesterday, I was reminded of this as I watched some other passengers squinting to read the fine print on the bags of junk food handed out in flight. Did they really find what they wanted to know, I asked myself? I'll never know the answer!
