Rossen Reports: Some trucks carry unsafe food, authorities say - TODAY Rossen Reports - TODAY.com
Do all stores and restaurants receiving foods that need refrigeration of any sort check the temperatures in the delivery trucks on arrival? Is that a state requirement?

Is the ball getting advanced by having our sweet potatoes sold in plastic wrappers for microwaving directly and our corn sold in plastic wrapping, shucked? I am not sure.

France: Apricot price hits rock bottom
Why is it that they cost roughly twice as much in the US? In fact, when I was in Nice last month, the price was about .75 USD/lb for excellent fresh apricots? What's up?

Lowes Foods
I find myself confused about how I feel toward Lowes Foods. They proclaim themselves to be a family business but what I have found about their corporate structure makes me think it is a pretty odd family. Requests that they stock certain products have gone unanswered. Communications with their contact option on the website make me think I am communicating with a computer and not real people. Yesterday, I was there, and bought some peaches. I guess the checkout person put in the wrong code as it failed to reflect the sale price. As I looked at the screen at checkout I wondered why the amount purchased has to precede the item? It sure makes it harder than it should be for the customer to see how the computer and the bill are reflecting what was collected for purchase. Finally, I rarely have seen the same people twice and have no idea who is in charge of anything. Having started shopping at our local Lowes in Chapel Hill (well, they say they are in Chapel Hill but really are in Chatham) 13 years or so ago (whenever it opened), I feel today that I am seeing a whole new group of people each time I enter the store with only a couple of notable exceptions.

Black figs - Trader Joe's
Why is it that the packaging for the black figs I bought a week or so ago at Trader Joe's contained no advice on how to conserve them once at home - in the fridge or out, and nothing about likely period during which they would remain good? The manager told me to put them in the fridge and they would last only 3-5 days. Wow. I got my money back, returning what was now a package of mostly mold and some figs.

Local - Weaver Street Market
The 1-21 August 2012 flyer from Weaver Street Market has many good things in it. Of all those things, tho, only 5 items are identified as "local" - one of them being a tick repellant. What's wrong with this picture? A lot.

Really?
Dear Terry,
Thank you for your e-mail.
I have investigated your concerns and found that the “0”, should actually be
approximately 5.7. The serving size is manually inputted into the Nutritional
Application system that creates the labels. This is what I had on
file. The information on the bottom of the panel is according
to our Quality Assurance department is a standard that we must include on all
our labels as part of U.S regulation, and the information is not reflective of
the actual product.
Please feel free to contact me
with any additional questions or concerns.
Regards,
Silvana Buttiglieri

Dear Silvana,
Thanks, but I have questions.
On the top of the nutrition
panel, it reads “Servings Per Container 0”. Is that right, “0”?
On the bottom of the same panel,
it reads “ Calories Per Gram – Fat 9 Carbohydrates 14 Protein 4”
If the serving size is 56 grams,
then this means that each serving contains 56x9 calories of fat, etc?
What am I missing?
Thanks,
Terry
