Price of food in France

There is tremendous concern here over the rising price of basic food ingredients, like wheat. The impact will be most on those who can least afford it. Increases could be in the double digits this year.

Of equally great concern is a story on French television last night, reporting that food producers are looking at ways to change the ingredients in their products to reduce cost. Inevitably, this will lead to some reduction in nutritional value, and I worry that people will not understand the changes, and assume that they are getting the nutritional value out of some foods that they had come to expect. It is a regular problem with foods that are created with someone else's "hands". It is hard to read and compare labels all the time, and much of that time, it is impossible - or nearly - to really know what is in these foods.
