Defrost frozen fish in original plastic packaging. Safe? - General Topics - Chowhound

Defrost frozen fish in original plastic packaging. Safe? - General Topics - Chowhound: "The curious thing about seafood is that when in an anaerobic (airless) environment, there is a chance of the formation of the bacteria Clostridium botulinum, also known as C-bot, a cause of food poisoning. By removing the packaging, you eliminate the risk of C-bot contamination. Just to be on the safe side, the FDA requires these guidelines for all vacuum-packed seafood"
I called Kroger at 1-800-632-6900 to ask about their Pink Salmon Fillets (their spelling of Filets) which bears the warning: "REMOVE FISH FROM VACUUM POUCH BEFORE THAWING".

Nutrition Action Healthletter

Lowes nutrition

In looking in Lowes today in Chatham County, I found that almost all of the fresh produce - at least those marked - got a 95 or higher on the nutrition scale that Lowes uses. Why don't they promote this more? I tried to get a list of all the items in the store with the highest ratings and had no confidence that they had such a list.

It's frustrating to buy something like clementines at Harris-Teeter, find them much more sour than sweet and then no real way to go beyond the packaging to learn more. The only thing on the label is this company's name and town and the words clementines and Peru. Somebody is dropping the ball on this.
